Frequently Asked Questions
1
What ages will you see?
Rising Tide Psychiatry is open to patients age 15 and older. Those who are under age 18 will need a parent or guardian present during appointments unless they have been legally emancipated.
2
What insurance do you accept?
Rising Tide Psychiatry is “out of network” with all insurance carriers. Patients will be provided with the necessary documentation (a “superbill”) to submit for out-of-network reimbursement. Please note that Medicare patients are not able to seek reimbursement for care. Prior to their initial evaluation, patients with Medicare will need to sign a form indicating their understanding of this.
3
How do I communicate with you or access my information between appointments?
All patients are invited and strongly encouraged to create a Patient Portal account which allows you to view, download, and print documentation, view and change appointments, send secure messages, and complete pre-appointment forms.
4
Do you allow late cancellations or appointment changes?
I ask that patients cancel or change appointments that they will not be able to attend as early as possible. Appointments canceled or delayed within 48 hours of the scheduled time will be billed at the full visit rate. Appointments can be switched from in-person to telehealth on short notice in response to unanticipated absence or illness.
5
What if I cannot afford to pay but still wish to receive care at Rising Tide Psychiatry?
Dr. Reis has a limited number of patients seen at a reduced rate. Starting in the summer of 2025, we hope to have psychiatric residents able to provide care for a much-reduced cost for local residents. These trainees are in their final years of psychiatric training and are supervised by Dr. Reis.
6
Do you provide telehealth appointments?
Yes. I am able to provide telehealth appointments for patients who are in the state of Indiana at the time of their appointment. Please note that I do attempt to prioritize patients in the Lafayette/West Lafayette area and encourage local patients to attend in-person appointments when able.
7
Is your office mobility friendly?
Rising Tide Psychiatry is located in a one-floor office building that does not require any stairs and has ample parking adjacent to the entry way. Doorways and hallways are standard dimensions. Seating was selected to accommodate a variety of bodies with comfort and dignity.
8
Do you care for gender nonconforming individuals or prescribe hormone therapy?
Gender nonconforming individuals are welcome in this practice. I do not prescribe hormone therapy for any of my patients but routinely consider the appropriateness of hormone interventions for a variety of symptoms and am happy to provide referrals and collaborate with physicians in primary care, endocrinology, obstetrics & gynecology, or other relevant fields.
9
Can I bring someone to my appointment with me?
As the patient, you have the final say in who is or isn’t allowed to join your appointments (minors and those under guardianship have some additional limitations on confidentiality). I will routinely ask your permission to excuse others from the room to discuss any sensitive topics that may arise.
10
Can I use HSA/FSA funds to pay for care?
Yes! If you have a health savings account or a flex spending account, you can absolutely use these funds to pay for your care.
11
Do you see Purdue students?
Absolutely! Students who leave the state for the summer will generally be sent with prescriptions and plans for follow-up early in the next academic year. Those who remain in Indiana can be seen for telemedicine appointments as needed.
12
Do you care for patients with eating disorders?
Eating disorder care is best accomplished as a collaboration between a team of medical and mental health clinicians. I am happy to participate on that team and offer psychiatric expertise, but will generally require that patients with active symptoms of an eating disorder also remain in the care of a primary care physician or similar and a psychologist or therapist with expertise in this area. Individuals with a history of disordered eating but without current eating concerns are welcome. All patients are encouraged to participate in routine medical screening and preventive care.
13
Do you care for patients with addiction?
Many people experiencing mental health symptoms struggle with current or prior addiction. Rising Tide Psychiatry does not currently have the counseling services required for buprenorphine induction or maintenance for treatment of opioid use disorders but may consider this in the future if there is clear evidence of need for this. We are also not able to provide adequate medical supervision for those experiencing complex withdrawal from alcohol or benzodiazepines. I am happy to care for people with a history of addiction as well as those with current addiction provided that they are also participating in appropriate additional therapies to manage this.
14
I would like to schedule an appointment with you, what should I do?
Great! Click here or "Request an appointment" on any area of this site to get started. This will take you to a brief screener that sends your information to Dr. Reis. Dr. Reis will review that information and send you an invitation to create a Patient Portal account. Once you have logged in, there is a "Book Now" option that allows you to book an evaluation. If you prefer not to schedule yourself, call the office or send a message through the portal and Dr. Reis is happy to schedule you.
